QA Level 2 Award in Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Young People and Adults at Risk (RQF)

Introducing the key areas of safeguarding, this qualification provides learners with knowledge of ways in which young people may be vulnerable to harm, abuse or exploitation in the workplace and/or the learning environment, and what they need to do should they suspect it to occur. It is suitable for a range of roles.

The UK takes safeguarding very seriously, which means that anyone working with younger people needs to be acutely aware of their duties and responsibilities.

Our safeguarding training in Sheffield is aimed at providing our trainees with the knowledge and skills so they can be effective if child abuse or exploitation occurs.

Our QA Level 2 Award in Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Young People and Adults at Risk (RQF) course gives learners a level of training that not only includes the basic knowledge and skill set to acquire a firm understanding of safeguarding young people but also equip them with the ability to participate in a safeguarding enquiry.

Anyone taking part in the course will be able to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse. They will be able to maintain confidentiality and have the ability to follow procedure.

As well as this anyone who completes the Level 2 Safeguarding Training Sheffield course will gain a real insight into safeguarding legislation and the way in which it has evolved.

Key to safeguarding young people is having a grasp of the legislation and how it applies to their role. Communication is another aspect that will be explored, as will being able to identify potential abuse.

The course looks at the profound impact that some well publicised cases of child abuse and neglect have had on the legislation we now have in place including statistics and how multi-agency cooperation works.

You’ll learn how to define safeguarding in respect to children and young people and the action you need to take if you suspect abuse or a child confides in you. You’ll look at areas in which you can reduce the risk of abuse, the signs and symptoms of the different types of abuse and the roles and responsibilities Level 2 early years and young people practitioners may have.

Introduction to safeguarding
This will give learners an understanding of what safeguarding means. The course explores who is responsible for protecting children from abuse, as well as focusing on statistics about the different types of child abuse.

Safeguarding structure
This focuses on the single assessment ( a working document about potential abuse shared with a social worker) and looking at possible outcomes of the assessment as well as what occurs if there is a risk of serious imminent harm.

Types of abuse
Learners take a look at the different forms of abuse that a child may be exposed to and who may be an abuser.

Recognising risks
Recognising the risks of child abuse is absolutely necessary and this section of the course looks at how to assess whether a report needs to be made and also the factors that make children more at risk of child abuse.

Reporting concerns
Once you’ve assessed the situation we’ll examine ways in which you need to make a report. In some cases for example, it might not be appropriate to make a report available to a child’s parents.

Following referral
This part of the course looks at the consequences of a referral and about the different kinds of outcomes you might expect.

Those taking our course also need to know something about contextual safeguarding. In the past, safeguarding has focused on the young person’s home, school, youth club and sports club to keep them safe and while these areas are still relevant they aren’t the places children and young adults spend most of their time right now.

Contextual safeguarding starts by finding out where young people spend their time and then works to make these places safer.

Online safety is a term used for promoting the safeguarding of children and young people when using any device over the internet. Obviously the online world is one which children and young people inhabit on a daily basis; in their personal lives and increasingly in an educational context. This is pretty much an area that is evolving all the time causing major shifts in how young people interact with the world.

The Government’s Working Together to Safeguard Children document states that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Working Together outlines the duties of all organisations that work with children.

As this is an e-learning course you do not have to live in Sheffield to take part in our training course so anyone who needs this qualification can take advantage of our expert training. Level 2 advanced safeguarding children training is suitable for anyone who frequently works with children and needs a more in-depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation and procedure.

This three hour course is an introduction to the key areas of safeguarding. The qualification provides learners with knowledge of ways in which young people may be vulnerable to harm, abuse or exploitation in the workplace and/or the learning environment.

Once completed the course will give you 3 CPD points and the certificate, which covers all required legislation and practices, will last for two years.
